Course Expectations:

Unit One: Identity
· Short Stories: Kath and Mouse, Interlopers, Thank You Ma’am, What Happened during the Ice Storm, Acceptance
· Poetry: Mercedes Lugo, Road Not Taken, The Toad
· Short Play: The Open Window
· Skills: Journal writing, short answer response, literary terms and devices, reading comprehension, grammar review, MLA formatting
Unit Two: Novel Study: Only in the Movies by William Bell
· Skills: Short answer response, paragraph response, literary terms and devices, reading comprehension, grammar review, MLA formatting
· Literary essay
Unit Three: Heroes - Mythology
· Myths: Jason and the Argonauts, Odysseus, Beowulf, Sir Gawain, Theseus and the Minotaur, Hercules
· Activities: creative writing, media design and writing, oral presentation, grammar review
· Film Study: National Treasure
Unit Four: Shakespeare – Twelfth Night
· Media Study / Scene study
· Skills: integration of quotes, guided paragraph
Comparative Essay
Unit Five: Final Evaluation and Exam
· Culminating task: Independent Novel Study
